Australian Open

kath and i had a great time at tennis yesterday -- we went to the Margaret Court Arena and planted ourselves in good seats and stayed all day --- we saw men's doubles, woman's singles match (with another belgian - yanina wickmayer - another baseline banger a la clijsters), and the monfils - Isner match. Isner took that match with his massive serves and big forehand --- monfils still could have taken that match as he had a break in the 3rd set but gave it back with a lazy game and lost the set in a tie-breaker. after that he moped around and Isner kept his nerve won it in the 4th set tiebreaker.

Bali August 2009 - Part 1

katherine and i spent 2 1/2 weeks in bali to celebrate our 25th wedding anniv. we were joined by chris and his wife judy. chris attended our 'first' wedding so it was special having them there (thanks guys!).

we stayed in 4 areas of bali -- i wanted to get a good tour of the country after visiting it once before but only seeing the southern region. we started in Ubud, then went up to the northern coast in Lovina Beach, the eastern tip on the island in Amed and ended up in the south-eastern coast town of Candidasa (pronounced 'chandi dasa').

we visited museums, art galleries, temples, saw dances, did some snorkeling, ate great food, got a few massages and generally toured around -- we had a fantastic time! Bali is physically beautiful and dense with culture... it's the bali vibe.
